Minimum requirements for pilot registration are Young Eagle's requirements.  That's it.  If you are qualified to fly Young Eagle's flights, you're good to fly Take Flight for Kids.

All Take Flight for Kids events are committed to safety, first and foremost.  Take Flight for Kids San Jose is an EAA Young Eagles event and all flight operations will be run under EAA Young Eagles' rules.  It is essential that every possible step be taken to prevent the unlikely event of an incident and/or injury on the airport grounds or in the air.  Each pilot must have a valid pilot’s certificate, current medical, and meet all currency requirements in the Federal Aviation Regulations.  All aircraft must be airworthy with all proper maintenance and inspections completed as set forth in the appropriate regulations.   The pilots-in-command are responsible for the safe and legal operation of their aircraft.  It is expected that adequate liability insurance is current for each pilot and aircraft.

It is the responsibility of each pilot to exercise extreme care, especially considering that passengers, including passengers with special needs, and spectators are involved.  Each flight should be conducted under FAR Part 91 rules.

YOUNG EAGLE'S PILOT REQUIREMENTS:.

Complete eligibility requirements are listed on the EAA Young Eagle's Website.   The following is a summary for reference only, and is superceded by the official EAA Young Eagle's Requirements.
  • All participating pilots must hold an Appropriate Airmen's Certificate (Sport Pilot or greater)
  • Pilots must possess a current Medical Certificate (if applicable)
  • Pilots must be current EAA National Members
  • Pilots must be current to carry passengers in the aircraft the plan to use.
  • Pilots must have a current Flight Review
  • Aircraft Passenger Liability Insurance is required for the aircraft used (owned, rental
  • or borrowed)
  • The Young Eagles registration form must be completed before the flight including
  • parent or guardian signature.
  • The aircraft used for the flight must be in airworthy condition.
  • Flights must adhere to all applicable Federal Air Rules (FARs).
If you believe that you meet these requirements, please continue online registration.

PREFERRED FLIGHT ROUTES AND ALTITUDES

Routes are TBD and will be distributed the morning of August 8, 2009

As always, altitude and route selection for Young Eagles flights are subject to the discretion of the pilot-in-command of each flight. EAA recommends limiting flights to 30 minutes, particularly during busy Young Eagles Rally events!
